Wolf Pack’s Brian Polian lights the Humane Society Tree

It’s official, the Nevada Humane Society’s Lights of Love Tree Lighting ceremony went off without a hitch on Saturday night!

Signature Landscapes’ holiday light division, Christmas Decor was proud to sponsor the inaugural event. Dozens of folks enjoyed live music from the Suzuki Music Association of Reno/Tahoe and tasty hot cider as they waited for the official countdown to the tree lighting.

UNR Wolf Pack Coach Brian Polian and his son were on hand to ‘flip the switch’ of the 16′ tree atop the Humane Society roof. It was a wonderful moment when the tree was lit. Guests were even able to mingle with Wolfie, the Wolf Pack mascot, who graciously mugged it up for the cameras!

Signature Landscapes has been lighting up the Nevada Humane Society for years as part of it’s seasonal sponsorship of the program. Helping pets find warm homes is wonderful thing that impacts families for years and years.

Christmas Decor Lights up the Nevada Humane Society for Lights of Love

The Nevada Humane Society facilities on Longley Lane are getting a total holiday makeover. Christmas Décor by Signature Landscapes has just finished installing over 10,000 lights on the building and trees in an effort to help kick off their 7th Annual Lights of Love community event.

Families are invited to join Nevada Humane Society this Saturday, December 7, for the first ever Lights of Love Holiday Tree Lighting! Featuring children from the Suzuki Music Association of Reno/Tahoe performing traditional holiday carols on violins, this family-friendly event is sure to warm your heart.

“We love to see our communities sparkling with colorful light and festive displays,” said Steven Fine of Christmas Decor. “What can be more joyous this time of year than the holidays coming alive with the magic of glittering lights while helping our animals find warm homes this winter?”

Live music begins at 4:30pm and UNR Wolf Pack Coach Brian Polian will light the tree at 5pm. Admission is free.

“This exciting event is a great way to kick off the holidays and raise awareness for homeless pets at the same time. As we feel especially connected to those we love around the holidays, our Lights of Love tree is being lit to bring light to those feelings,” said Kimberly Chandler, Communications Manager for Nevada Humane Society. “We also hope to celebrate those pets who are being adopted, and to reach people who are not familiar with our organization so that we may place even more pets into loving homes this holiday season.”

Lights of Love runs through January 1, featuring holiday lights in remembrance and honor of beloved pets. A light may be lit for a $10 donation, which benefits homeless pets at Nevada Humane Society.

Signature’s Team Hauls Trash Out of Lemmon Valley

It was a great big day for trash. Somehow, it always seems to be a big day for trash. But on Saturday, May 11th, trash took a big hit from the Signature Landscapes team out at the Lemmon Valley trash pick-up site. The Signature team, their large dump truck, and about 20 other community heroes gathers together for the Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful Great Community Cleanup.

This site was just one of more than 10 sites designated as heavily trashed by the organization.  The KTMB Community Cleanup has been taking place for more than a decade, and the trash just keeps on coming.

Chemane Trimble, one of Signature’s owners can’t believe the amount of garbage that people just throw out in the open.

“Beds, carpets — there’s a Reno Gazette-Journal machine that I think someone gutted and threw out here,” Trimble said. “A Ski-Doo. And the tires — just dozens of them.”

This year’s cleanup netted 103 tons of waste.

Trash Talking at the Picnic

This is a great video highlighting many of the great folks who donated their Saturday to helping the Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful Great Cleanup a huge success. Give props to the Signature guys at the end!

2013 KTMB Cleanup - Lemmon Valley

Tires were the standout item this year. More than 500 were collected during the event. Firestone, Howard’s Chevron and Tires Plus will recycle them.

“Tires are one of the saddest items to see dumped because they only cost $2 to recycle, but by the time we organize a cleanup and haul them out, the cost is 20 times that amount,” Christi Cakiroglu, the group’s executive director, said in a statement. “People think they’re saving a couple of bucks, but the cost to the community is immense, and they end up paying far more in other ways.”

UNR’s Resource Economics Department in 2009 found that a vast majority of Northern Nevadans are concerned about illegal dumping and would be willing to report it.  The hotline to report illegal dumping is 775-329-DUMP.

Jim Stanhouse honored as Ambassador for the Landscape Industry

Jim Stanhouse, Ambassador to the Landscape Industry

Jim Stanhouse, commercial manager for Signature Landscapes was awarded with the Ambassador for the Landscape Industry by the Nevada Landscape Association.

Given to the individual who has best served as a representative for the Green Industry, the award is a testament to Stanhouse’s commitment to educating Northern Nevada’s future landscape professionals. His dedication to leading the certification process for the NLA over the years has resulted in certifying more than 100 landscape professionals, and helping to raise the bar for landcare and maintenance in the community.

“Landscape professionals who become certified are recognized for having the high level of industry knowledge plus the experience to do a great job,” Stanhouse said of the certification process.

Always humble, and willing to share the spotlight, Stanhouse celebrated the award by presenting certifications to this year’s seven new landscapers at the award banquet held at the Silver Legacy, Friday night.
